About India and Education
The total population of India is 1.5 billion. These days we hear about India saying that it is a developing and economically progressing country. But at the same time when we look into the statistics of India, there are 300 million children who do not have access to go to school because of their poverty. There are more than 120 million people who live below the poverty line. There is a law that every child has to be given basic education, but i t is not implemented for verious reasons.
In the villages people depend on their daily wages to support their families as well as take care of the education of their children. When I say villages, they are very remote area with few facilities. They are not like the villages in the US. There is no electricity, drinking water and other basic facilities in these places.
Sponsorship
How Sponsorship Works:
Sponsorship is the best way to support the students to get their education and achieve their dreams. PEACE supports the children from 1st grade through 10th grade. The sponsors can choose the student according to their choice of boy or girl. The sponsorship program provides books, school uniforms, tuition fees, and Christian faith formation. The school academic year starts in the beginning of June and ends in the middle of April for summer vacation. So the sponsorship begins in June with the start of the academic year.
How to Sponsor:
PEACE selects the students who are in the neighborhood. Most of the students go to school from their homes. Some students stay in the boarding home nearby and go to school from there due to the distance from their homes. The cost of the sponsorship is $25 per month. Sponsors are invited to make their contribution either half-yearly or annually which helps us to keep proper record and pay the tuition fees on time.
Commitment of half-year sponsorship is $150.
Commitment of full-year sponsorship is $300.
Letters and correspondence:
Briefly describe your degree and any other highlights about your studies you want to share. Be sure to include relevant skills you gained, accomplishments you achieved or milestones you reached during your education.
Visiting:
The sponsor can come and visit the student in India. If the sponsor expresses his or her desire to visit the student, the organization will make all necessary arrangements for travel and accomedation. We will help to welcome the sponsor and they will be able to visit their sponsored student. This is a great opportunity to learn more about life in south Inida and about the student. This will be an unforgettable experience for both the sponsor and the student.
